My xt leaves two black soot marks in my garage when started and also blows black smoke when booted.Too rich right?
The carby is a 650 d/p spreadbore, ive changed the jets in the primary from 65 to 60 and the power valve from 85 to 65,but still runs rich.
Any ideas?
The cam is 219/219dur 525/525lift if this helps.

sorry to get off track dude, but how do you find that cam? What mods have you got. I just bought a speed pro to that spec to go in my new motor.

Its a fairly mild setup,30thou over,650 d/p,std manifold, pro comp ignition, tri y extractors,c10 auto and 3.50 gears.I did have to change the valve springs and the retainers to suit the lift.
The cam is good if all you want is a tuff cruiser so to speak.Idles at 800rpm with no probs and has a cammy note also,im still running the std convertor with no probs. The car cruises fine and with the 3.50 gears has the balls when u need it.
If you were after a revier engine i would go bigger.
The motor sort of wants to stop but will keep running.
You may have a leaking power valve. The idle screws should shut off your whole idle circuit and your engine...........so it could be getting fuel from somewhere else.
This would cause it to run rich at idle and cruising. Try replacing it.

If it can still "nearly" run with the mixtures all the way in, it sounds like you have the butterflys too far open. When its like this, it is drawing fuel through the tranfer slots instead of running on the idle circuit. I have found if i can get a fair bit more timing into it(safely), it will rev higer, burn the fuel better and you can back the idle screw back down to where it is meant to be, and should then run back on the idle circuit only. Checking the butterfly position is a good start.(primary and secondries)
That is why if all else fails, some people have to drill holes in the butterflys to get a bit more air in, while the butterflys are in the correct closed position.
