i have a c4 but fancy my ute beeing manual iv been offered a single rail 4speed with the 4th as an overdrive its an alloy case looks just like a toploader are these any good??
mostly just fast road use maytake to strip once in a while

well a single rail are mainly 6cl gearbox's but if they are good nick they can take a hiding! i am smashing one now with my 351 :) its taking it sooo far.

you say 4th as an over drive? its a manual isnt it?

With a single rail, its only a matter of time..........they're not a strong box. The toploader is what you should be chasing. Few more $$ but well worth it.

The toploader is quite different to look at actually. Access plate on top, no shifter mount on extension housing.........and no external "single rail"......3 long external shifter linkages.

4th is a direct drive 1:1 so this overdrive you are talking about? Hmmm.

Put the gearbox in 4th gear. Mark the input and output shaft in the same spot with a white paint pen etc. Rotate the input shaft a few times. Compare the amount of rotation on the output shaft. Same or more? That will answer your question about overdrive.

Do you want a change because of the overdrive luxury or manual thing.

yep got an alloy case looks same as a toploader gears come out top!
3 gear is 1.1 th is .87 or something similler
probably too late now tho i may still be able to get it or should i just use the c4 untill i can gather the bits for a toyota swap?
p.s was told by tl pro (after i posted here) that these boxs (the o.d speed manuals) are stronge than the ustang t5?
any advise / coments welcome

Mate, Go to www.davidkeetoploaders.com and look at the bit on "toploader imposters" ( http://www.davidkeetoploaders.com/imposters.htm )
If it looks like a toploader, has an overdrive and a 1:1 3rd, then I'd be staying well away from it.....

allthough i was told they are stronger than the t5?
anyways think its been sold now so ay as well ,,tune,, the c4?
