Hey guys i need some help deciding what cam I need......you see I need a cam that will work with the stock 8.4 pushrods.....the car is my daily driver and my only car so I cant be taking my engine apart to find out that I need longer/shorter ones...already did that once....I did measure the pushrods and they are the stock 8.4's and it has the stock cam in it now. I'd like somethin thats gonna have a good soundin choppy idle and makin power to 5500 rpm would make me more than happy.

I'm installin a new water pump so while I got it off I figured might as well add a few horsepower. I just want to be able to put in a new cam and lifters and just go, with out any problems with the rest of the valvetrain. The valve springs on the car were what were recommended for the cam I was going to run (.540, .560), seat 110 open 305, but because that cam needed longer pushrods reinstalled the stock cam with those springs and it's been running fine, so im guessing the springs arent far from stock....any help would be greatly appreciated. I run a 72 fastback torino sport. crower mkes a great solid lift split lift split dura, cam, I will find the specs, I run a roller conversion, valve tran and .001 over push rod, if you are running street DD the cams you mentioned are to big. 505 lift with the 2000 convertor would be better more low/mid range. I run 2800 stall with 526/292 dur that is a hyd cam in my street motor, the other motor above is waiting for another body or detune for my altidude.more info and i can help more. Geo

They are open chamber 4v's, stock (but new) valves, double roller timing chain, stock non-adjustable bolt down rockers. The engines bored .030...I bought the converter off the shelf and it said 2000-2400...so i imagine with different cam and gears it would stall a little higher than 2k, which it stalls at now with the stock cam.
I just really want to be able to use the stock pushrods as it would be a real hassle to get longer/shorter ones.....

I just want more power, cool soundin idle, and minimal problems..........

again anything from505-526 lift will work, you dont need huge lift in these motors, duration more on the exhaust side helps alot, and requardless you need to check the pushrods,valve train for bind and position!!!!!!Geo

Ps you will have nice mid range power and a good lope @ idle!
