Well... aren't i a happy camper.

Basically pulled my heads down only to find a nice big hole (about the size of a thumbnail) in the exhaust port in the bowl area.

I'm not sure if this goes into a bare part of the head, or into the water jacket....

The heads came off the car and it was running seemingly fine (no smoke, wasn't running too bad - pulled 275hp @ the wheels with crappy setup).

I'll try and take some pics... it's not corrosion, it's as if there's a hole that's been blown through the chamber.

The engine is running about 10.5-10.7:1 and had been pinging slightly due to fuel starvation at high RPM... could this kill the head? I had only driven the car 200km or so?

I'm guessing it's now time to start shopping for a pair of 302 Cleveland 2V heads of a XD/XE?

Damn, and i was all about to order my steel valves from the US to get her ready for motorvation... damn my bad luck...

Perhaps it's money save time for a pair of 3V's?

hole go`s though the head and pass though intake on factory manifolds acts as a balance pipe sort of and for emissions if you have a egr valve on the last of the clevo`s if the one im thinking of.

just poke some wire though if it comes out of the intake side center hole is the one i think.

set of clevo 2v heads with some 4v valves work well and decent valves and retainers was the other thing i did with my heads.

nar mate, this hole isnt on the face of the head that mates onto the intake manifold...

this is a hole in the bowl area of the chamber in the head...

i'm probably using the wrong terminology haha.. i'll take pics...

I'm using 2v Closed Chambers which cost about $3800 to set up completely with 4v valves, all Crane Gold rocker gear, reshaped combustion chambers, welded & reshaped exhaust ports & all flowed for 600hp. The cost is in the labour & the Crane stuff.
You can get a pair of 3v alloy heads for under $3000, but to set up, you would probably have to talk to Brent. He has a number of posts regarding his new 3V's.

It's the hole for the EGR. If you hole the head with the exhaust ports facing your gut? It's the 2nd exhaust from your left.

Setting up 3V's aint exactly cheap but worth it if you want to make more power down the track.

I've done both expensive 2v's just didn't cut it and so far I'm yet to full test the 3V's.

haha yeah i just spoke to my engine builder....

it's the EGR port... false alarm.

It just seems like such a stupid place to put a hole!

Ah well, the project continues!

Just been looking through the 'Parts Peddler' & noticed a company called "Air Flow Dynamics" (AFD) producing what they call a 2V head made from alloy.......620hp!
Anyone know anthing about them?????????

A flawed product but all means. Valve guides not drill 100% centre and a few other things. XR9UTE has seen this firsthand so have I. Although if the problems have been fixed? They should be fine even though they don't flow as much as the CHI.

AFD are local to me. Just down the road in Berwick (10 mins from me).

Personally from what I've seen. I'd rather put up with the part change of parts the CHI's require. Although the AFD's require the same parst changed anyway.

The only difference between the CHI and the AFD is AFD flows less and 2V extractor match better but still won't bolt up on car without modifications due to the exhaust ports being 5mm higher.

CHI heads are more a 4V head but built for lower rpm. Well the Engine Masters head is anyway. The 218cc 3V's I have are designed for higher rpm.

A word of advise is to make sure you get the real figures for both heads. I found the CHI head cheaper. AFD had hidden costs.
