What Stall??

Currently building 351 cleveland, approx. 450hp. behind a C10 and nine inch.
I'm looking at hopefully running 3.7 gears just unsure on what stall size and what gears to run. Car will be driven mainly weekends and taken to the drags.

Cam is a blueracer cam.
duration .050: 234/244
int lift @ valve .562in
exh lift @ valve .588in
basic rpm 2800 to 5800

Re: What Stall??

3500pm would suit it nicely. If your going to race it? Otherwise 3000rpm for street use if it's going to be very rarely run on the strip.

My reasoning -: 3000rpm will have a little bog down under high load. 3500rpm will pass that point of bog down

edit : 3.7's are a good choice. 3.9/4.11's would be to much for that cam. That cam works well. It's the prior camshaft a mate ran in his XB wagon with a 2800rpm convertor and 3.7's with no strip use. It made 212rwkw on Hallam Performances dyno with a 650dp carb and mechanical Ford fuel pump. He's now got a solid but similar spec F238 with a 3500 and 4.11's.

Re: What Stall??

Is it a Cam Dynamics ??? Anyway your 378 should get away with a 3000 stall cos of the extra torque it makes but for a 351C I reckon a 3500 stall. Will the C10 last long behind a 450 hp stroker ??? And a ute, the rear will b too light. R u using slicks like 28*10.5*14 at all ??? I guess u do like a 12.3 at 110 mph. Gook luck down the strip and keep in contact with ur times.

Re: What Stall??

The cam is a blueracer by crane. The new motor is actually a 351, no stroker. About the auto, BBE Automatics built the auto, told them it was going to have about 450-500 hp and they said no worries, so hopefully it will be all good. ABout slicks, hmmm don't know yet. The ute still needs some work done to it. Was setup only for gas, so need to go get new fuel tanks, lines etc.. bit more work to do

Re: What Stall??

It is the old Cam Dynamics grind, exactly the same as what I'm running in my Clevo.

What's the combo? I'd be interested in hearing how you got 450+hp from it. Mine made 308rwhp with 332ft/lb of torque. The torque curve was lovely and flat made over 300ft/lb from 3000-5000, peak power was at 5600. That was with std 2v c/c heads, performer manifold + 1" open spacer and a 750 Silver Claw. Ran a 13.2 at 109mph on street tyres, with a dodgey Top Loader.

For a stall I reckon a 3000 would be more than enough for that cam.

Re: What Stall??

I'd love to know how you get 308rwhp with stock 302CC castings? Dyno sounds very generous. My mate ran that cam. It did as I said above and required a 3500rpm convertor. He had a 2800rpm and it bogged down when it gripped. He also had port massaging. The heads flow 494hp.

Throw some decent tyres on yours and you'll see I am correct. I've the last 4 years I've played with roughly 5-8 different clevo combo's.

Your 13.2's about right on street tyres. Your mph will drop when you actually grip of the line. I ran 13.2 with bald street tyres when I was using a larger cam than above with a 3500rpm convertor and 4.11's (with 230rwkw). It produced a 12.95 with slicks bogging down on lauch. the cam likes 4500rpm+ convertors

Re: What Stall??

well im hoping for about 450hp flywheel, we'll see what happens.
engine combo so far:
351 30 thou up, 4mab crank, shotpeened rods, 2v heads with 4v valves (bit of port work), trw flattop pistons, xcellerator manifold. Thats about as far as ive got, manifold to sump, full arp bolt kit throughout. Haven't got the fuel system or distributor organised yet.

Re: What Stall??

compression is 11:1, heads also have roller rockers, double isky springs, and valves are ferrea. pushrods are one chrome moly crow.

With the distributor, was going to go MSD, but was also wondering if anyone is using the new crane one and what its like?

Re: What Stall??

I'm pretty sure you will have issues running 11:1. My mates was 10.5:1 and it detonated occasionally. Short story was he ended up with a F238 which bled off some of the compression.

Either way it should make the ute fun. The mid range torque of that camshaft is very good. My mates old engine that ran that camshaft was in a 2050kg wagon. It was quite fast. It was a pitty that engine never saw the strip.
