Re: Where to buy Toluene?

Oh !!! Anyone heard of Power Fuel and Max Race ??? U can use this to mix Premium Unleaded with Tolulene or Methanol. This is Nitromethane in a bottle. It is used to mix the alcohols together and produces "Synergy" (1+1=3) more power then as a byproduct burns and creates more power. Weird but it works.

Re: Where to buy Toluene?

There is an interesting mention of Toluene in the latest Australian Muscle Car magagine (page 62)

Rob Benson - who was the cheif engine builder for TWR and HRT - comments on the toluene in the control race fuel being used. Quote: "It used to gunk everything up and leave a glue like residue on everything".

This build up is on engines that are rebuilt on a regular basis, not driven daily. He went as far as to say they used to break in the engines on pump fuel on the dyno due to problems with the fuel.

Hi xbgs351, if you read the thread properly that quote is not mine, its a extract from the Federal Governments Senate enquiry into fuel additives..
.
if we take into account how much fuel and pollution is burnt into the atmosphere we should all sell our V8's and buy 4 cylinder cars...we can drive to work and around in a 4 cylinder.

Racer were they using Toluene as their primary fuel base ie 80%+? That is what the F1 racers were doing when they were using it in their fuel. Just curious for more info.

Re: Where to buy Toluene?

And these data sheets are worth reading (keep away the pregnant mice and the static electricity):
http://www.cpchem.com/MSDS/commodity...Grade-2900.pdf
http://www.cpchem.com/commoditychemi...neBrochure.pdf
http://www.cpchem.com/products/quickfind.asp#Aromatics
http://www.cpchem.com/MSDS/fuels/ref...75.6-27070.pdf
http://www.cpchem.com/MSDS/fuels/ref...IONFUEL934.pdf

Check what else is in it (eg)
"This product contains ETHYLBENZENE.
CARCINOGENICITY: In studies conducted by the National Toxicology Program, rats and mice were exposed to ethylbenzene at 25, 250 and 750 ppm for six hours per day, five days per week for 103 weeks. In rats exposed to 750 ppm, the incidence of kidney tubule hyperplasia and tumors was increased. Testicular tumors develop spontaneously in nearly all rats if allowed to
complete their natural life span; in this study, the development of these tumors appeared to be enhanced in male rats exposed to 750 ppm. In mice, the incidences of lung tumors in males and liver tumors in females exposed to 750 ppm were increased as compared to control mice but were within the range of incidences observed historically in control mice. Other liver effects were observed in male mice exposed to 250 and 750 ppm. The incidences of hyperplasia were increased in the pituitary gland in female mice at 250 and 750 ppm and in the thyroid in male and female mice at 750 ppm."

ouch!

I was just pointing out the fallacy of the argument.

As per emisions, I can see why they may be important in cities, but living in the country it doesn't matter what I do.

Re: Where to buy Toluene?

I agree with you is is not good stuff but the mice here are lab tested. To test on us would be equivalent to exposing us in a controlled room pumped full of Tolulene gas. This would be similar to "Petrol Sniffing". l only use 30% max mixed with super. I think I had a data sheet from BP and Shell which did not mention any side effects. Anyway if I die I will get you all here to gather the facts and sue them on my behalf.
