I do the same, but also making sure i have some advance left in the body of the dizzy. On TDC, you must be able to turn the #1 spot on the body of distributor, clockwise past the rotor tip, to get the 8 or 10 degrees advance on firing.
(this is more of a problem on the XD dizzy's with the alloy box hanging off it fouls on manifold one way, and thermostat cover the other way)
