Hey all,
as with previous post I am just finishing a 351c XE build.
Was just wondering what thermo setup your guys are using on your XD/XE's?
EL or AU or something else?....
also what setup are you using these in relation to fans running at diff times if you have the EL.
What setup works best?
which setup goes in with no metal work on the car and not much mods?

AU.
The operation combinations are:-
Two fans at half speed
One fan at full speed
Two fans at full speed.

EL.

now, were is a good place to buy these? wreckers in local area ofcourse, but is there someone who reco's or stocks them all the time? should i be looking for any signs of damage? some prone to bearing failure?

EF ones can be prone to bearing failure.
Just measure up your radiator and see which ones out of the EL and AU fit better.
Both sets work very similarly, the AU ones are just a bit narrower and the fans are slightly offset, they are also deeper.

AU ones can be prone to BRUSH failure, especially when they come off a Taxi! Why not just wire them to both come on fully when needed and that way they will be running for the minumum time. Cant see the point of having one (or both) running all the time. maybe you will want to put in an extra relay so they work withe the air con.

ive got the au ones on my esp, seem to work better then the ef/el ones because of offset of the fans

is there any difference between AU and AU2 thermo fans?

i bough mine new because i didnt wanna stuff around with seconhand ones. cost me abou 200 bucks. but u should be able to buy them from the wreckers for about 120 i think

You won't need thermo fans or later model technology to get your XE 351 to stay cool (unless you want to!). I used the 6cyl radiator, the proper shroud (important) and a 7 blade viscous fan that I got from pick-a-part for $12. Make sure you get a proper Clevo thermoustat too. My car never went above half on a hot day sitting in traffic. When my radiator blew up I put in a XA GT 3 core air-con radiator (the wide one) which was pretty hard to fit in, but it ran even cooler - about 1/3 on the guage. XF radiators also fit straight in and are much better than XE ones.
