You know what I hate

people who cant stop saying "my mates car could run..."
" I reckon my car could run..."
" it used to run 15's but now it would run 11's"
" if it was my car I would...."
"my heads flow 600hp....."
" my motor must be putting out 600hp"
"one day I will take it to the drags"
and my favorite " it puts out 300+rwkw"

REMEMBER...... When the green flag drops the bullshit stops.

You know what I hate?

Smartasses.

In my opinon this is a forum to help people/discuss what we might be able to achive and what its going to cost. There will always be people that inflate figures. Yes they are bloody annoying, but I can only suggest you ignore them.

Re: You know what I hate

It's my pet hate too. There is so much crap floating around in car land. You just have to get used to it.

Myths that get perpetuated are something that gets me. It's suprising what works and what doesnt. Often doing the opposite to what is considered "correct", makes more power or makes you faster. Only experience will tell you.

The best way is to get to the track and see how the fast guys do it. Learn, then ignore the rest!

Theory doesnt build fast cars. Experience does.

Re: You know what I hate

People that have never even been on a drag strip that guestimate 1/4 mile times. Whats quick on the street aint necessarily quick on the strip. They always guestimate by going what another car has done and the fact they fluked a win means they'll got faster? Not the quick cars driver screwed up?

In another car club I am involved with they all swore they have 12-13sec cars. Well after 3 years they finally got the balls to hit the strip. All the 12-13sec cars didn't run any quicker than 14sec.

Also people that only build engines one way as it surely couldn't work your way. I had this in regards to the parts that I run in my heads yet they gave no issues in the old heads. Why would changing the heads make issues? I was told you have to change things. Money grabbers suck arse.

Re: You know what I hate

I know exactly what you mean. Anyone who has drag raced knows that you spend many a long hour in the staging lanes waiting for a run. In Sydney in particular, a six hour wait for 3 runs is the norm, and essentially the reason i quit racing - but thats another story.

Some of the stories you hear are quite suprising. 10 or 11 second guesses running 15's and 16's and such. Same goes for outrageous HP numbers....

They soon find out the cold hard truth though.

But i guess that's all part of learning. I'm sure we have all been there at some stage...... :)

Re: You know what I hate

Yeah some days the world seems full of arseholes and full of people that are full of bullshit. But that's what lifes all about, sorting the wheat from the chaff. You couldn't have your own experience as good as it is, or grow and learn better ways of doing things, if life didn't provide bullshit to grow your flowers in. Be too boring otherwise!

Man a guy at my work the other day tried to tell me his mate had a street registered 6000 rwhp 5.0 commodore, N/A regular premium. Lets just say I have never laughed so hard in all my life. His story quickly changed. HAHAHAHAHA

6000N torque maybe, even that would be a fairly decent engine!
