so i own a 92 nissan 240sx fastback. my stock 4banger's piston rings are shot, and im burning a quart of oil a week. looking through my options i have they all seem very weak for the amount of money they require to get. used 4 cylinders from overseas aren't worth the bucks. so talking with my brother-in-law(who's pretty heavy into domestics) he started me on the idea of an aluminum 302. i just have a few questions...

1. how much would this engine weigh? my stock engine+tranny weigh around 500lbs, its pretty important that i keep the weight down so i can keep my near 50/50 weight balance, and thus keep the great handling of my RWD sport compact

2. Transmission... it seems like a pretty normal thing for your power houses to have an automatic transmission, nothing bad about it but i want a manual, i like having more control over the car considering i autox and drift more than drag. what should i use? i dont need a super-racing transmission a stock one would be fine, especially if its 6-speed

3. If i do this im going to go with a setup similar to this http://www.mustangandfords.com/tech...8898/index.html, i currently dont have an engine to rebuild. what would i tear a donor engine out of in the junkyard?

4. Also, what kind of gas mileage would I be getting with this engine? Right now i'm getting about 17mpg.

Fit a VG 30TT ..RB 25...RB30[vl]

Or 1jz , 2jz Toyota...As much as I love Fords, these would be much easier...Imo

the non turbo vg's are tight fits, and aren't very "fun" engine's to work on, the jz's are also quite a squeeze. the rb's are pretty straight forward installs but they are used and all parts must come from japan... $$$$$.

I'm surprised that the engines are so much $. Over here, you can easily get an SR20DET or RB25DET half cut for under $3k (AUD). That's a late model <80,000km complete engine, gearbox, maybe diff, dash, front spring and struts, brakes, crossmember, radiator, condenser, intercooler, etc for under $3k!

Don't know how much Windsors & T5's go for in the US, but the price on them half cuts are pretty hard to beat.
