I'm rebuilding a 302 and am wondering if its best to replace the timing chain cover mine has almost worn through the water passages between the water pump and block. Brand new covers are $300.00. Has anyone else found this problem? is there a cheaper option?
Oh another thing yes it's common for these covers to corrode after time.
The best thing to do is keep the cooling system clean with coolant at all times to prolong it's life.
Believe me - you dont want a timing chain cover to corode and get any water in it... its not pretty, and its no cheap!!
When I was getting my timing chain cover, I orginally was sent the wrong one (they sent me one for a 302 carby, not a 302 efi) and it was about $140 - $150 from rocket industries.
The EFI one was a lot more expensive ($1200 from ford or $400 from killkenny castings)
