hey fella's
im currently building a mark 2 cortina (yes another one) this time im thinking 302 windsor, worked with a stroker kit & alloy heads, now this will be a street car, the engine i was getting already has 300 hp, my mechanic joked that alloy head & stroker kit would take that to 500hp, this is the sort of numbers i want, wouldnt be bad to have 500hp in a 900kg car now would it??
if anyone has built an early model cortina with a v8 before, what difficulties did u have? basically give me a heads up on potential problems, any advice whatever you've got im accepting any advice.
cheers Steve

the plan is to bullshit, rego it as a four then put in the 8, i no this is illegal, but that wont be the only illegal thing in the car. I understand your point completely, my mechanic said the same thing, thats why initially we were looking at a 3.5 litre rover, but they just dont have the balls

What about getting it engineered, and running an injected windsor??
I have heard of a local car (corty) with 2 engines with the same numbers, so when it gets it little sticker, it matches either the 4 or 8 cylinder... It is a lot of mucking around swapping engines for an inspection though... moreso if you pay someone else to do it.

As much of a v8 person as I am, why dont you get your self a nice lotus twin cam and put a little turbo on it?
Shit loads of power,light.....and if thats not enough grunt add some n2o...

i know this might be blashemy here but why not a turbo'd rotor.. Great power to weight and would look nice and tidy in an early Corty.. Alot cheaper than a stroked V8 without any mods to the inner guards etc
well....i could never put a rotor in, you are right, its blasfemy.
the cortina i have now is copping a twincam, i really want a ballsy car, the basic plan is to get a 302 windsor, 4 speed gear box & put it all in, drive it around & then do mods as required.
the problem with putting newer tech into an old car is efi, you need to put the brains in, the costs alot more money than an angle grinder & a welder, however, a 302 fits straight in, of course everything will have to be modded to allow it (suspension, brakes, tubs) but the basic engine fits in without a problem

Long time ago (late 80's early 90's) there was a Mk1 corty in Street Machine - absolute stockers with hubcaps, venetian blind, stock steering wheel, tiny exhaust pipe, and the thing had a big block in it... awesome sleeper! I thought that may have had QLD rego.

Yeah, EBXR, I remember that. It was white and the only sign of it being out of the ordinary was the rear wheels had been slightly widened. Because it still wore original hubcaps, however, you were hard pressed to think it was anything but 100% stock.
well...the plan for this one is to do it up exactly the same as the white one (check avatar) sames type wheels & all, paint, everything, will be a spitting image of the white girl, except it will have a worked 302
