351 cam in 302 will it fit?

I did a search but couldnt find anything and vagley remember being told its a straight forward swap with just the spark plug leads having to be swapped around
So does any one know for sure if there is any compatabilty issues here as i was thinking of using one so when i get around to putting injection on the car it will have the correct firing order for the eeciv.

If your going with SEFI, I would have thought you'd need to work something out there as well, given the different firing order . . . Might be as easy as swapping onjector leads, but I dunno

Re: 351 cam in 302 will it fit?

Something where? 351 windsors have the same firing order as injected 5.0w don't they? I will have to change the 5.0 tfi distributor gear to a cast one for the flat tappet cam then i wont have to mess around with the pins and loom to much.
I need a new cam anyway.

Question Re: 351 cam in 302 will it fit?

I think your right.
The 302 and 351 Windsor cams grinds are the same but the firing order is different. You need to change the leads on the dissy cap to suit.
I read the firing order was changed for the 351W to relieve load stress on certain main bearings ???
Watch out if you have a 5.0 engine as some (85-up) have roller cams and the lifter bores are longer anyway ???

Re: 351 cam in 302 will it fit?

Yes it will. But different firing order...In this case..Actually same as above as 302 HO efi's and 351's had same fireing order, but different to 1970- 302 carb ...Cam numbers should make it very streetable
Whats the lift?? Hope you fit good aftermarket springs..

Heads?? Check on exhaust port? If there is a hump [for egr] there just grind them down as the heads normaly are restrictive on exhaust as most Ford heads are..

Re: 351 cam in 302 will it fit?

The lift is Intake .472 ,Exhaust .496 with 1.6 rockers.
Yes will match springs to cam.. 95# closed, 260# open sound right?

I went crazy at work with a die grinder and removed the humps, tappering the inlet valve guide, smoothed out the short side radius and ports ports all up about 15hrs worth of grinding .There not polished (not that crazy) they still have to be gasket matched to the gt40/explorer style lower .
