Hey there again guys, just wondering if you know what the 351 windsor is good for in terms of horsepower. I was considering putting a 347 into my EL, but was advised to go for another block, seeing that my wanted HP figure would bust the factory casting. So it got me to thinking, why not a stroker 351, to 420 odd cubes, for similar cash, and lots more torque. Put it past the engineer, he has given me the ok, so all I have to work out now, is if the 351 block is alot stronger, or buy another "tougher" 351 block.
Any suggestions
It would be great to have 1200 hp, but seeing that I am only looking for 600-630, do I need to spend the $3200 on the W351 block, if the factory casting holds up to this figure reliably......
At the risk of soundind like a hypercrit - a good block is always a good investment - especially if you are running 3K worth of stroker.

well im currently building a 416w. standard block got it sonic tested and it came up all ok. it should make about 550-600, if i wanted to make more then 600 i woulda hate to buy a new block
Here's some good pictures for you - how to hurt your HBeam rods..stretch your main studs, break your main caps and your block. The closeups are a bit blurry but I think you get the picture.
looks expensive to me - I might leave the 200hp N2O kit for a while

I dont mind having to get either the W or V 351, or are these just overkill for my needs. I basically have in mind EL XR, 427 cubes, I have the complete front end from a Stone Brothers car, uprights, shocks, calipers, rotors crossmember......you get the idea....and a close ratio T56, and want about 630-650 HP. Basically a Ford version of the HRT 427 but oh so much better, in a way only a Falcon could provide.

There is nothing worse than building a top engine and thinking the whole time it could grenade at any time..In some ways WHY put parts inside a block that'll take 800+ h.p with a block that Ford recomend 650 or so...It depends on how your going to drive it? With std block maybe just good rods the crank can be std or cheaper stroker cast crank as the assembly will be about the same strength...
There is more to these blocks than strength.. Longer lower cylinder bore,better oil passages etc...
In the Dart block they are huge...
