So I've acquired a 1971 351 Windsor motor (which I understand to be one of the better ones of the production years) I am going to rebuild it but my question is how do you know what power band to make the build in? idle to 5800 rpm or 1500- 6000 rpm? Whats the difference? Any info on this would be great.

Really what I would like to know is what one is used for over the other. street or strip. or is one strictly strip. is one used to create more Horsepower and the other more Torque?

A street car is constantly stopping & starting, so an tdle -5000 would be better. A drag car continuosly accelerates to the high end of the RPM range, so a cam operating @ higher RPM band is used.
