351W rebuild sudgestions

Hey Hey!

I just fell upon a 351w out of a late 60-early70's econo..
I'm taking it down to block and rebuilding from scratch to drop into a early bronco for off and on road use...

I'd like to get some ideas as to how i should rebuild to get good power
like what (aftermarket) parts i should pick up and/or what mods i should make
Open to any and all suds!
thanks for the help!

Re: 351W rebuild sudgestions

I have a Cortina with a 351W. I got a Edlebrock RPM Performer package and put that on when I did the engine swap. It goes realy well in the Corty, its got heaps of torque, so should do a good job in the Bronco. I got the different parts from different places but basically all you need are the Performer Rpm heads and intake. Just get a decent carby (750 Holley etc), source a cam with similar specs locally (Igot a Crane, tehy supply Edlebrock anyway)and get decent ignition. You may need a performance fuel pump too. The end result is supposed to be 400hp and 412fp.

Re: 351W rebuild sudgestions

Several manufacturers will provide good cams for off-road use. I'd say find something with an idle-5000ish powerband and you'll be okay.

Stock heads aren't worth the work. Slap on some AFRs (best bang for the buck) with 58cc combustion chambers (be sure the head bolt holes are 1/2", as the 58cc are usually for 302s, which have 3/8" bolts) and that'll significantly raise the compression.

Get a dual-plane intake manifold, for lower torque (I've read lots of great things about the Stealth manifold from Weiand) curves and slap on an Edelbrock 650cfm- they're maintenance-free (worth every penny). A 750cfm carb is WAY too much carb- you won't get enough of a power difference over a 650 to be worth the gas you'll be wasting. MAYBE use a 700, but I'd stick with the 650. I'd also say manual choke- if you're off-roading like I do, water will be EVERYWHERE and can possibly short out your choke.

Just my opinion.
