'65 289 and '83 351 Parts interchange - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I've got a 53 F-100 that came with a 65 289, or so I was told. It looks the part. The water pump pick up is on the passenger side.

I have a fresh 351 out of a 1980 Bronco, and want to put it in the '53. My question is, will the timing cover/water pump housing interchange? I like my radiator, and want to keep it.

I'll be using the A/C system from the Bronco as well, so that may be a concern when it comes to bracketry.

I don't have the Bronco here to make the comparison yet. It'll be a few weeks before I can tow it up here.

All that should interchange. You might check the bell pattern, some '65 Mustangs had the 5 bolt '64 bell/block, most had the '65 6 bolt bell/block.

Thanks! I hadn't considered the Bell pattern. On the plus side, I have a Muncie M21 and a Lakewood bellhousing that will adapt to either pattern. May just be the reason I need to go 4 on the floor. LOL
