I am in the market for some AFR 185 heads. Has anyone searched around and found prices? I am looking for the 185 street heads, 61cc combustion chamber w/ 3/8" studs (pt # 1420)...

Yes - I have already spoken to XR8Chic. Was more interested in purchasing them from the states where you don't seem to get bent over as much as here.

TFS R series are to big a port for my combo I think - the 185cc intake will probably be better. I would take the R's over the AFR 205's....

Im the Summit man :wnc: but no - they don't sell AFR gear. http://www.brothersperformance.com have them http://www.totalengineairflow.com/products/fordhead/afrsbf/ - some here a little cheaper (big ported ones too)
at US $1300 and .70 for the Australian dollar
=$1857
freight US$ 200 (from what I have previously brought in)
=$287
customs & import A$400 roughly
roughly $2550 landed in Australia
The new version of the old TFS high ports flow well .. There exh ports are 12mm higher but I can't see a problem there..They are inline valves not twisted as TFS T/W heads..
Have sent HPW an email to get a price off them. From what they have on the Website the prices seem ok - but still nowhere near importing the stuff yourself. I have been bent over too many times by Australian speedshops - I paid A$190 for a TCI flexplate because I needed one straight away (and that was supposed to be trade price) - if I had have purchased it from Summit it would have cost me US$59.95. That alone wouldn't have been so bad but same shop also stung me for some ARP bolts (H/ballancer & Flexplate). The standing rate in Australia seems to be triple the US price and that will do - when in reality bringing the stuff in yourself works out to a little under double - and that is buying through a retailer over there. The days of having to be shafted buying spped equipment is over and the speed shops in Australia need to realise that. I purchased an Eagle 3.4" forged steel crank, 5.4" forged H beam rods, SRP forged pistons, rings and bearings from www.jegs.com. Cost me $US 1300 + $US 300 shipping. By the time it was landed here, duties and GST paid - it owed me A$2700. Price the same gear up in Australia...

I import 90% of my own stuff, but some things arent worth it.
Should anything be damaged or be faulty or require warranty, you can kiss your money goodbye. If you buy from HPW, you have the goods in your hot little hands you can inspect them, and you are guaranteed there will be no delivery problems.
I have these heads on my car and i got them from High performance world for $2514.44
They flow really well. Ive only just finished building mine so its not fully tuned yet but ive being told to expect 330-340rwhp. Money well spent if you ask me.
With these heads they flow so well It would be a wast unless you have decent cam and inlet much better than Fords inlets..From Edelbock RPM etc are o/k.. I think they are over $3k now.. HPW have some AFR 225's there now..Be carefull and WARNED that with 185cc heads. The pistons need to be notched as they have bigger valves...Piston to valve issues....

Bloody good combo !! I guess you are using Eagle H beam rods ???
I would have gone to 30 Lp injectors maybe??
The induction side seems a good combo..But some including myself in the past don't put the right combo to gether..Ie I have ported TFS heads about the same size as R series and E 303 cam ..But I run at the time an unported Cobra inlet which is good with std type cam heads etc . But I found where I should be making real power the inlet was slowing me down..
Pro-m work o/k with Gt eec ???
Your block should be o/k.. Depends on rpm and abuse..Most usually crack using high rpm and slicks hard launches etc...Or break the next day !!!!!
It is all getting machined at the moment - Peter Michaels is ballancing it. I just need some heads. George from HPW is chasing me some down but he hasn't given me a price yet.
The EL GT ECU should have no problems with the Pro-M (fingers crossed) - alot of emails were bounced back and forward to make sure we were getting the right gear. Dave at Pro-M was particularly helpfull.

Was going to check the duty cycle of the injectors - have to run the thing in first (might take me a year with the amount I drive my cars- fly in/fly out worker). If the duty cycle is too long I will probably order injectors for the next stage. (supercharger). The standard fuel rails have real issues with the Trick Flow R manifold on the front left side - so I will be placing my order for the fuel rails and regulator in the next couple of weeks. The The whole thing has been a fairly expensive exercise so I will be glad to go back to work - in retrospect - the same money thrown at a cleveland would wield low 11 second quarters....

i had that problem when i fitted the std fuel rails to the r series manifold, i cut the cross over pipe off and repositioned it, turned it forward slightly, and silver soldered it in place, still looks original, works well, and cost next to nothing to do except time. fi you are going a super charger you would want to be runnig 36lb inj minimum if not 42lb's
Yep - thats why I am in no hurry to buy 30's (unless someone wants a brand new set of Ford Motorsport 24's). Pete was telling me about the Trick Flow R manifold - std fuel rail problem just before I started putting it all together. As soon as I got to the front corner I suddenly remmebered everything he said. I have also been told that running over 24lb/hr injectors and the fuel rails become the most restrictive part in the system which is why I am going to billet rails.

remember i will be in LA oct 14 doing a big shop, will have a container to fill. so i need orders on 5 or 10 sets to get us a great deal. I had AFR 185 on a stock 302 with a victor jr manifold and 650 dp and it had a 2500 - 6500 cam and ran a 12.4 1/4.
afr are 580 hp flow tested out of the box.
