help , just bought a 96 5.0 xr8 and had the oil changed by local dealer now the engine seems to have a gudgeon knock, old owner used to run mobil s in it please help

Ford dealers use Castrol oil as far as I know. Do you know which oil they used to refill? The oil that Ford use should be ok for your engine. I think they use a 20w-50w Castrol Mineral oil and should do the job on your motor. The Windsor 5.0 don't really like thin oils that much. 10w is the very minimum I'd go for a standard '96 5.0 Windsor.

Yes, Ford dealerships only use Castrol Oil specifically GTX3.

But what is a gudgeon knock....I would assume your talking about piston slap.

The gudgeon pin is what holds piston to rod....Piston to bore clearance on these motors is quite tight and they generally don't wear, unless its been overheated,no aircleaner or bad maintinance....

Yes i do know what the gudgeon pin is and thats why I suggested piston slap
as I read somewhere on a review of EL XR8s it is quite common when they
were brand new to have this problem.

use something semi-synthetic or straight sythetic, personally, i wouldnt use anything lower in each number than 10w/40, as in 10w or higher, and /40 or higher,
if u know what i mean
