Building a 500hp 347 and had advice to fit a girgle to the bottom end
but have read this may have implications to oil pump and/or pickup and
windage tray
Any advice welcome and what is a windage trays job ?

The girdle will help the botom end hold together if block splits. Some argue that they can actually cause the bottom end to move around due to different expansion rates of the girdle & block..
But most good high performance engines have them these days, I guess it comes down to r/r..
They generally all fit in there depends on individual brands...windage and crank scraper...

the job of the windage tray is to stop the oil in the sump from being blown around the inside of your engine by the spinning crank, by seperating the two with a windage tray it keeps the oil where it belongs around the oil pick up.
the crank girdle is ment to stop the main caps from moving around under high rpm/load by tying them in together. some times you have to provide a bit more clearance to fit one esspecially when stroking a motor which can be done by milling or a die grinder if youve got a few spare hours.
some crank girdles come with windage trays fitted to them
