Hey guys/gals,

Anyone know if there is a difference btn the v8 setup in an EF-EL XR8 vs the likes of an EF-EL Fairmont?

I notice that the power and torque outputs are listed as different and am wondering if it is just due to more aggressive exhaust on the XR8?

I could be missing something really obvious as I have only just started looking at this.

No dude your spot on in your assessment. The XR8s have always had a slightly more agressive exhaust as they're supposed to be a sports car. The Fairmonts run a more restrictive (read less power) and hence quieter exhaust.

Other than that they are the same!!
Oh lower diff ratio makes XR's more responsive...

Note that EL XR8s manufactured from Oct 97 onwards had an extra 15kW. Following is a cut and paste from FPV's web site on the changes.

Quote:

"A significant EL XR8 upgrade followed in October 1997 with little fanfare. An extractor exhaust system similar to the EL GT's, a larger throttle body, revised Explorer inlet manifolds and tweaking of the latest EEC V system lifted power output up to 185 kW with a small torque increase."
