what would a auIII xr8 5.0L motor be worth from a wreckers (block heads manifold intake maf and al the bits with it) would it fit straight into my Ef xr8

IMO, it would not be worth buying an AU3 motor, or any other stock windsor to put into your car, it's much better to work the motor you have.
The engine, if you can find one, would be about $3000, compared to a set of ported GT40P heads, edelbrock manifold, cam, chip, throttle body, k&n filter and dyno tuning.

but if i can get one cheap it already has the gt40 heads and other bits to, plus it would be much easier to build it up then put it into my car as an engine swap once its finished cause i need my car its a daily driver

But you won't get one cheap, unless it's hot. I was reading parts peddler or something the other day, people are asking $6,000 for a 255KW Clubsport GenIII, with no computer or loom.
AU3's have GT40 heads, but not a hot cam, Edelbrock manifold, and they run rich as hell.
GT40 heads aren't all that fantastic ot of the box, they still need to be ported to have real flow rates.
If you need a daily driver while you work the EF, buy an XE on gas for $500, and use that. It will still be cheaper. Why do you need to buy another block, crank, pistons, rods, manifold, computer, ignition etc when all of that stuff is sitting in your car right now???

Sound's like a good plan mate, let us know how you go with it and how much it set's you back. What you want to do is exactly what I want to do to my EF Fairmont Ghia 5.0L, but I just want to build up the donk that's in it.
Kepp us up to date.
Cheer's

One other thing you could do, is buy a second hand 302W block, because i'm pretty sure they are all the same, right back to 1965, and build from that. In the mean time, say you get GT40 heads on your current motor, you can change them to the new one when you swap motors.
Then, if your wallet is still heavy, a stroker crank and pistons would match nicely.....

Stroker from $2500 Gt40's $1000 but there are far better heads around the the gt40p's..
Check out some import places that sell U.S imports make sure it has the good bits on.Then your talking..Older blocks may not pass epa...even though they're now efi..Or atleast don't tell rta, keep old #'s...
