I have an EF XR8 347ci and sometimes i turn the key and ign lights come on then go to start it and nothing happens??? It usally fixs it self and starts after a while but today it wouldnt so had to clutch her!! I assume its an eletrical fault?
Anyone know whats wrong???

do the dash lights dim when you crank it? i'd be checkin the batt terminals and batt cond first

The lights go out all together and there is no sign of it cranking over at all. the gauge says it has over 13 volts.

May also be the starter motor solenoid, a fairly common problem especially with extractors.

if lights are going out then batt is loading up.yes.starter solenoid would be next on sus list then check ign switch itself(less likely but dont rule it out-assumption is the mother of all **** ups)

Bugger!!! Neg terminal had corrosion on it. I also checked voltage with a volt meter and it only show 12.69 so it might pay to get a new one tommorow.

good chance it's the smartlock module above where the handbrake lives.... give it a tap when it does it again, or put pressure on it....

My mates XR6 does the same thing, turns to crank it and nothing happens and all the lights go out, his smartlock unit is buggered and everytime he goes to start it he has to hit the panel above about the handbrake to jolt the smartlock module to get it to start cranking.

I've noticed with my car it takes a second or 2 before the motor starts to crank, is this a sign my module is on it's way out or is it normal?

Could it be the ignition relay in the engine bay not making contact?

Mine does this sometimes too.. Not enough to worry, and you just take the key out, put it back in, and start it.
