Can anyone who has converted a 302 from EFI to Carby tell me what cam they used and wether it worked well.

Is the stock EFI roller cam all wrong for a carby ?

(the motor is from a 92 Fairlane)

I'm getting conflicting advice.......

Thanks

hi,the stock roller cam will work fine with a carby. the 92 fairlane engine is just a 5.0 HO usa engine and the cam has a bit more lift and duration than tha stock usa 5.0L efi engine and is much better than the old 302w carby stock cam. any of the cams that are listed fore the your efi engine will work perfectly fine with a carby. if you do start doing cam swaps, just check the firing order is correct. early carb windsors and the efi 5.0L engine use the 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 firing order and the efi 5.0 HO(same as all aussie falcon/fairlane fitted 5.0's) use 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 same as 351w and clevo. if any other q's just ask.

Thanks for responding Craig, I am aware the EFI's have 351 firing order and I would appreciate you view on :-

What is the power rev range of the stock roller cam? (i understand there is approx 3000 rpm band) (dont know if this alters between EFI and carby)

If it is relevant the vehicle is 66 Mustang, 5 speed mannual, no air or PS, standard diff ratio.

the stock cam is only good to around 3500rpm. if you use a good single plane or the edelbrock rpm air gap dual plane intake you will make more mid and topend power than the stock efi setup. it will rev higher than 3500 of course wether its efi or carb but they just dont make great power with the ultra conservative stock cam.

True every test i have read shows a carbie setup outpowers a efi setup on a 5.0 although most tests ive seen start from 2500rpm up, the hp and torque has always been higher, these motors love a victor jnr or as craig said a edelbrock rpm air gap, no bigger than a 650 cfm carb.
