I have the original motor out of my EF XR8 out, and for the life of me I cant find the engine number. Its not at the back of the valley cover where I found my new motors. Do ford oz put them anywhere else ?

Not like its a shonkey one either as I've had the car from new.

It should be located on the rear upper left side of block below number 8 spark plug

In the past Ford have replaced motors under warantee, and these do not have an engine number, but this cant be so in your case unless the car was a demo or something.
