Hi folks,

I have a Ford Windsor 302ci in a Mercury Monarch which has been standing for about 12 years. What procedure do you recommend with the engine? Do you think it is necessary to rebuild the complete engine even if it's turning? Is it too risky to just try to start the engine after a good service and after building up oil pressure? Everybody is telling me something else, so please help me!

Squirt a bit of oil down the spark plug holes to lubricate the cylinders, change the oil and filter, turn it over without firing as you said to build up oil pressure, put in CLEAN and NEW fuel, maybe put some fuel through the lines as the old stuff will have caused a mess in the fuel lines, clean the tank if possible as sediment will be in the bottom of it, then start her up and see how she goes ;0)

rebuild is a rebuild, doesnt matter if you start it and it is crap, think of it like some one blowing a head gasket, they rebuild the motor no big deal, the motor will not blow up, if timing etc are still as they were she will fire up and run :0)

Goodluck, oh the carby jets may cause a prob to get fuel through, so carby clean might be needed.
