I guess the easiest way to tell is the size of the heads on the Clevo are HUGE like 4 or 5 inches wide I guess, the heads on the 51 Windsor are about 3 inches or so (although I havent seen a 51 windsor in a few years now).

On that subject, Kevin Bartlett (Street Machine) rates the 51 Windsor as the best V8 of all the V8's around be it Ford, GM, Chrysler etc

clevo's are made in cleveland and windsors in windsor?

it's a good question, because i'd like to know the same thing! one of the engines has the banks of cylinders at a wider degree than the other - windsor i think

i'm probably wrong though...

351 and 302 Cleveland engines have the thermostat housing in the block.

289/302 Carb Windsors have the thermostat housing in the inlet manifold and I think the 351 Windsor does as well.

If you have them close by each other then it is immediately obvious. The Clevland is overall a much bigger engine particularly the width of the heads.

The vertical part of the block on the 351 Windsor is taller than the 289/302 Windsor.

If you can post some pictures and someone may be able to identify it for you.

Also what vehicle/model/year is it from.

Ross

Of course you could always read the engine number on the block as the C and/or W forms a part of it !!

Not necessarily.

Engine number from a 1974 351 Clevland

JG37R1320061

No C or W there.

Will have a look at the 1996 Windsor EFI that I have to morrow and see if it has a W but from memory there are numbers only in that one.

From about 1972 on engine number from the factory matched the VIN.

There is a decode for the earlier models some where but can't locate it at the moment.

If u post a pic I will tell ya in about 2 sec flat....
easiest ID difference is the thermostat necks are in different locations...
clevo - thermostat sits "in" the front of the block
Windsors - thermostat bolts onto intake manifold..
Also the waterpump designs are quite dramatically different in appearance.

Windsor=60 degree angled 'V'
Clevland=90 degree angled 'V'

So Windsors are a lot narrower than Clevlands

Someone please correct me if I'm horribly wrong, but thats what I've heard
