I Need More Power!!

I have a 79 f100 with a 302 and 2barrel carb and auto transmission. I'm not too familiar with this engine because i am just getting introduced working on engines and such. Well I have enough experience to know when an engine lacks balls and this one does. I read that the 302 in the early 70's was pushing 250-280 hp and due to emissions regulations in the late 70's it was cut to around 140 depending on the carb you have. well i was wondering what i can do, besides swapping in a 351W, to scavenge some power without going bankrupt. I am a college student on a budget after all. Well i hope you guys get this and send me all the help you can.

Re: I Need More Power!!

A four barrel vac sec carb and matching intake should make a big difference. If budget permits, get an after market alloy intake such as an Edelbrock performer.

Re: I Need More Power!!

(new to the site)

I'll be bringing home a 302 from a '79 F100 as well, but my plan is to swap it into my '97 Ranger. I'm also new to rebuilding engines, but am very mechanically inclined...once rebuilt I plan on getting a good intake and 4 barrel carb, possibly cam also, depending on my budget. What kind of power can be made with these upgrades?

Any suggestions for a newbie? (I've ordered a rebuild manual, and engine stand, I'm ready to tear into it!)

Thanks!
