Hello, i have a 74 mercury montego, yea its a lang yacht but its a nippy car :) i have a holley 4160 fitted, edelbrock aluminium intake manifold and twin exhausts, i want to change the headers, what would be a good set? Would these change the sound as well? Open to suggestions :)

Headers are part of it. Go to a duel exhaust with a high performance muffler. It'll actually improve your gas mileage as well.

Thanks bud, would a set of hooker headers work? we have performance mufflers on. I just want it to have a loud v8 rumble lol without going open headers

Opening the exhaust will give it a better rumble, that includes adding headers. What's the size of the pipes?

Im not sure, they might be the originals coz they were on when we got the car.

Hooker headers with about a 2 1/2 - 3" collector and pipes to match. The key to efficiency and added horsepower is free flow through the system. You might even want to consider opening up some more down the road with performance heads. Alot can be done to gain HP and sound without giving up on quality of ride.
