Hey guys, I've got a mate with a problem with his ED Fairmont 5.0L. It doesnt happen all the time but he reckons it's happening about 80% of the time now, doesnt matter if it's hot or cold, first start etc. He's replaced the leads and plugs which I told him probably wouldnt fix it.

I'm gonna go have a look at it tomorrow night and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on where I should start looking to save me some time?

Also is checking for trouble codes the same as an EA or is it totally different? My EA-ED manual doesnt cover the V8's and obviously the EF one is totally different so I'm a bit lost.

My first bet would be the oxygen sensors in each exhaust manifold.
You could try cleaning them but probably best to replace them as its likely to have a few Klms on them anyway.

I'll take a look at them first, he just had extractors put on so the exhaust shop may have stuffed up, can't remember if the problem was before or after they were put on, the thing has done 220k

Probably best to just get new ones...
Alot of people seem to have them go after they put on extractors.
They are around the $100ea mark. And be sure to get the ones that come with the plugs.

I agree with dodgie... more often than not this is a sign of O2 sensors not coping. 220kms - certainly need to be replaced.
