Well my T3 has gone on a small holiday to Melbourne and is getting some subtle mods done to further enhance the already great package that Tickford delivered to us in the 5.6L stroker. These modifications will show what can be done utilizing the std components of this engine be it with a slightly different camshaft, nothing radical.
I know your wondering who is doing the work, well it's in the great hands of Chris Finnin at Blue Power Racing Developments(EB 5.6), he and the boys will be improving the engine in the area of tractive effort and flattening the torque curve with a goal of getting the car to run approx 105mph+ at Willowbank here in Brisbane. At the moment the my pb is 14.21 at 99.9mph. The car is an auto and has a k&n filter and a 2.5" catback system with reback mufflers, nothing else . The engine will be removed from the car as it is allot easier to work on the engine in this way. The cylinder heads are removed stripped, acid bathed and will be tested on a flow bench to see what they flow std and to give us a bench mark.
They will start by improving the std GT40P cylinder heads with some selective porting and then they will be flow tested again to see where improvements have been made. The GT40P heads flow 180cfm/550”lift std and we should be able to achieve approx 230cfm/550”lift. The heads will have a valve grind and the inlet manifold will also be match ported..
Once Chris is satisfied and knows what the cylinder heads flow he will then have a cam ground to his personal specifications which accommodate the head work, valve springs will also be replaced. The std roller rockers will most likely be replaced with adjustable rollers 1.7:1. (I know that the some of the windsors had 1.65 and some 1.7:1 so we will decide on that when we cross that bridge.)
The only other mod will possibly be a higher stall converter which will raise the stall by 300-400rpm thou this maybe done at a later date after some track testing.
We will also look at either a Unichip or Chiptorque ecu programme once the engine is back together and is on the dyno.
Chris will be sending me pics of the work being done in stages which i will link to this thread. The engine is currently out of the car and the heads should be off and pulled down tomorrow.
