i recently purchased a 5L (from an EF XR8!?!? whats the diff if it's getting reuilt newayz) (as far as i know i got it from the wreckers) and before i put it in i wanted to modify it a bit.
My mate has a nicely worked 308 but as far as i know i need completely different parts so if any one knows what i could substitute for each part or what other things i could do i would relly like to know keeping the budget under 5k i don't really care about 1/4 times i just want something with over 150rwkw thats sounds sweet.
I am looking at genie extractors, crane 2030,2031 or E303 cam (after a lumpy idle), yella terra heads stage 3. I was also looking at getting a B&M hammer shifter, and a 2500 convertor (don't know what sort), would i need to change diff or not as i currently have an EF I6.
Oh i also know f@#K all about engines so please don't be too technical

ok so far i have come up with a list like this
GT40p heads
gt40 manifold (same thing as heads iono please correct if it is)
Yella terra roller rockers
ACL gasket kit
E303 camshaft
pacemaker extractors
any one have prices on any of this ?

I would go for something like:
GT40P heads ($1000-$1200)
Edelbrock Performer Intake ($1100)
Crane 2031 cam / springs / retainers ($600) much better than the E303
Yella Terra ST2027 rockers ($500)
Pacemaker extractors (around $400)
3" Exhaust (anywhere between $400-$2000)
The stock injectors might be able to cope, but you should look at
24lb Fuel Injectors ($600)
Airflow meter to suit injectors ($400)

If the diff is not LSD, it probably won't last too long if you give it a bit. I guess you have got a V8 auto trans to go with it, I wouldn't worry about a 2500rpm stall convertor, they can just cause problems and generally the stock one is fine.

There isn't much in Adelaide. You should be able to get most of it through www.vpwmailorder.com based in Melbourne. For the heads, try Mick Webb SVO motorsport or Herrod Motorsport again in Melbourne.
