289 top motors, chances are its retarded as they usually turn same direction as shaft..
Get it checked asap..You'll posibly find your exhaust is hotter than usuall too....
A quick way of checking timing is to take cap off and with points move whole dissy and when it clicks or makes spark, the ballancer / timing mark should be around 10/ 12 *.Tighten it all up.. Then check latter with timing light...I like to set at max advance at 2500 rpm so you KNOW what timing is at its peak torque, or there abouts...Making sure dissy is working properly..You have to mark ballancer though...
