My AU XR8 series1 5speed goes great but im now looking for a bit more power i have done the exhaust and i am shopping around for extractors i was hoping to get a chip, cam and head package but a couple of places ive spoken to have told me to supercharge it any ideas?
Depends on how much money you are willing to spend. A supercharger will give you a lot more power and torque, will drive like stock while off boost and is fairly easy to install and ewmove if needed, but they cost anywhere from $6-10k. The head, cam and chip will produce no where near the power but will be cheaper at around $4-5k depensing on the heads you go for.
Where on earth did you get that quote from?!? What was the claimed power output of this setup? What kind of blower? Etc etc
That's pretty damn cheap for a drive in drive away blower kit!

Yeah exactly, I would like to know what blower they plan to run. Even the powerdyne kits, which aren't the best quality on the planet cost $6400 supply only, then add another $1k for fitting. Personally I would recommend a Vortech blower as a minimum, their quality and reliability is what made me buy mine, Vortech kits start from around $8k supply only.
Maybe he gave methat price off the top of his head who knows but do you guys think that if i was to spend around $3000 I could get around 220kw also what do you think of NOS as this car is now only a weekend car.
Personally I don't like NOS for a number of reasons but it is the best bang for $$$. If you tune it well it is fine.
You can get 220kw easy from an AU with purely a cam change. Get a Crane 2030 or TFS1 cam with matching valve springs and retainers for around $700, installation will probably be another $300 or so. The AUs often have idle issues with cam changes, so count on another $600-$1k for a chip and you will easily have 220+kw.
As has been said Tfs 1 or 2030 crane + a chip to control the idle and you've passed 220kw. That should put you around the 170 - 180rwkw.
Also plump another air intake into your air box with a good perfomace filter in it eg BMC or K&N
And seeing as its a manual and you wont come across the torque reduction issues as much I'd also look at
3.9's and a upgraded clutch. (say 1400 ???)
Thanks heaps guys im thinking i would like to do the cam and chip change you suggested and would still like to go with the NOS for the occasional run at the creek just one more thing does anyone know a place in Sydney i could get this done.
