help ,i just chaged the oil on my 96 xr8 and the engine is real rattly now , i put in shell helix 20w/50 multigrade any one got any ideas? . its only rattly at idle to 1500 rpm .i have only owned the car for 3 months the oil presure is excellent and the cars only done 12000 kms, its rattley both hot and cold but th engine still has tons of ford grunt please help , have thought about putting in stp oil treatment to make oil a bit thicker ?

Did the noise only start since the oil change or are you just noticing it more?

Can you be more specific as to the location of the noise and the sound?

yea , i started to notice the noise after it had an oil change . id say the oil had not beeen changed for a while cause it was as black as black and real thick , it had an oil change and is now rattley , sounds like its knocking up by the heads a rattley nock the oil pressure is nice and high and the engine is still strong , im running shell helix 20/50 oil and some nulon engine treatment. hope you can help

Might be that the lifters are full of crap and not pumping up with oil. Making the oil thicker with engine treatment might actually make it worse. Probably worth putting some engine cleaner (also called oil flush treatment) and changine oil again. The engine cleaner needs to be run through the engine for 15-20 mins from memory, then dump the oil while still hot to warm. This gets rid of the carbon buildup and other rubbish through the engine and might allow the lifters to pump up again. I also tend to use thinner oil than 20/50 even on higher mileage windsors.
