i have got a 64 falcon with a pretty nice 289 that i am rebuilding and i have a litte delima about some piston rings, first of all i have installed the oil ring and the two others that go on top and on bottom i have also installed the top compreeion ring but what i need to know is that there is a bevel on the second compression ring on part of the instructions says that the bevel faces up and another part says that it faces down they are federal mogul rings the top is the moly type ring and the oil ring is stainless steel so if any one could help that would be greatley appreciated

Top ring is flat sided and usually a "stainless" or black iron ring. The second ring can have a bevel which faces upward and is usually black iron. Oil control is 2 rings with stainless or chrome facing and spring steel spreader between the two.
Never align the gaps on the rings so they are in a line. Always around 120degrees from the next one.

i've heard that the black rings are a bit better because they don't wear the bore of the block as much, is this true or is it just uninformed pub talk
