Top ring is flat sided and usually a "stainless" or black iron ring. The second ring can have a bevel which faces upward and is usually black iron. Oil control is 2 rings with stainless or chrome facing and spring steel spreader between the two.
Never align the gaps on the rings so they are in a line. Always around 120degrees from the next one.
