Hi guys. I am looking to buy a new starter motor to put in my car. I need to know the length of a hi-torque starter suit a 302. This can determine whether mines going to fit on the rhs or not :S So can someone please measure one for me!?
Are these starter's interchangeable regarding the sides of the motor they can go on? i.e will they fit on either side of the engine...I have a bellhousing for my car and atm it will be on the rhs of the car...but if it doesnt fit behind my steer arm i need to put in on the lhs of the car...as the rodshop has bellhousings to suit both. Catch is the new bellhousing is an extra $100 :(

The hi-torque ones fitted to XR8's are about 17cm deep. I am sure you could get smaller ones though.

hmm that sounds about right...what model xr8 is that off? I wouldnt mind getting one of them....17cm or smaller is what i need! Would that be one that mounts on the rhs? like the one here on ebay :

The one I measured is from my ED XR8, but all E-series and I am pretty sure even AU XR8's had the same one. Looks very similar to the one on ebay, but the ones on XR8's mount on the LHS (passanger side) and I don't know if it is interchangable.

Yeah, they are a 1.4kw reduction gear starter motor.

ok ill have to investigate more...i gotta find one that will go on the rhs, or ill have to change the bellhousing
