Points Gap for Standard Dizzy

Nice easy one this morning. Just picked up an XB Coupe Yesterday with a 302 windsor in it and I want to replace the points among otherthings but I don't know the gap. Also I believe the firing order for the 302W is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Is this correct?

Any info I might need to know would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Points Gap for Standard Dizzy

This is the correct firing Order for a stock 221-260-289-302 Windsor. However it is incorrect if you have a 351 Windsor Engine,or 351 Windsor Camshaft.I think from memory that the Point Gap for a Windsor is 12-17 Thou. I will have to double check. You should also re-check your Engine Timing after changing yoour Points.Factory recommendation is 6 Degrees BTDC,but can be Advanced up to 5 Degrees from that if suited or required. If you use Bosch Points, then I'm pretty sure that the Part Number for them is GF-82V off the top off my head.Make sure you don't buy GB 700 Bosch Points as they are for Cleveland and won't fit a Windsor.Something else that may help is that I think that the Windsor Engine Idle Speed is 475-500 RPM for an Automatic and 575-600 for a Manual.

Re: Points Gap for Standard Dizzy

Thanks for the info guys. I don't know if the cam has ben changed for a 351 item, so for now I will assume everything is still 302. Already have the right points so that all cool.

Cheers

SORRY I though you had 351..As roller blocks are the same....
The above fireing order will be wrong then...

Ford V8 221, 255 (4.2L), 260, 289, 302 (5.0L), 351W 1962 - 1992
Both Early Firing Order (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8) and
Late Firing Order (1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8)
Roller 5.0 is the latter..
