well it took the whole weekend and quite a lot of patience, but the ported heads are now installed!

one head is on.. if i had a 4 cylinder i'd have been done by now!

putting on the Larry Perkins (tm) head gaskets

220,000km and still has the hone marks

andrew installs the ported lower manifold.

now the problems!

-fan wouldnt come off. ended up taking the radiator out so i could get the shroud off. still wouldnt budge though, i managed to complete the job with it being there.

-power steering pulley wouldnt come off. not even a rattle gun would shift it. I managed to get the whole bracket off despite bolts being behind the pulley.

-had serious rocker cover gasket leaks. ended up removing chrome rocker covers and putting stock units back on until i can get some new cork gaskets (stock units have a rubber that seals rather than a gasket).

apart from that everything went relativly smoothly.

Htf did you get that power steering pump bracket off ???
I drilled 3 20mm holes in my pulley and fitted allen headed bolts so I can access them through pulley...There is a special puller that fits over front of pulley, don't stuff the thread in main shaft!!! Those pumps are expensive...

Ive done the same but sh*t me if i didnt think of drilling holes into the pulley for easier access.
Your right the Pump is hell expensive, I have a fully rebuilt one in the shed courtesy of Ford incase this one ever goes.

Power steering pump. Yes, a charming little piece of work from Ford. Im sure you'll agree. The tool used to remove the bugger has two 'claws' which grab the front of it. If the thing still needs to come off, lemme know coz ive got the ABW remover for these pulleys. Not to be confused with the installer - a seperate tool, lol (which i also have). So just sing out if it has to come off.

That's a damned good way to get thru the pulley tho EBxr8240. Dunno bout earler models but i also shelled out for a set of *ahem* "tamperproof" sockets to get the bastard bolts out once the pulley was off.

it certainly feels stronger. difficult to measure as there was a 4 day gap between driving it before and after.
