Rear Mains

What is the general concensus on the best seal for the 302 rear mains: rope or split-lip?

Use the rope type if you like to lose power. The felpro 2 piece lip seal is perfect, used ACL race series type lip seal on a couple and they both leaked a little (read weep) but the orange felpro is great, set and forget

I get the block machined and use a ford 6 one pce seal. Only one i'll ever use

Yes blue66coupe I can see why the split-lip :- the rope seal adds 15 ft-lbs drag on the crankshaft!!!


TD302 how do you get it machined to take the one piece?

You bolt the rear cap on and machine the inner area where the standard seal sits out to the size of the one pce seal. Any machine shop can do this for apprx $60-80.
