recommended electronic dissy for XY 302w - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I hate points ! ! ! OK, now that that's off my chest . . .

My son's XY wagon is running straight LPG so he needs the best spark he can get. His 302W has the original points dissy, but he wants to change to electronic. The Ignitor II conversion with a Scorcher coil is an option, but you are still relying on a 30 year old dissy as the base of the system.

I've heard about these new electronic dissys (called a Zenith).

The web site said that they were rebuilt dissies that have been upgraded to electronic, but when I phoned up, they told me they were NEW, not remanufactured. (I'm confused now).
I live in Perth, otherwise I'd drop in and have a look and a chat.
Has anybody used these dissies?
Or can anybody recommend an alternative solution to my son's spark question, (dissy and coil?). Thanks.

Have a look at pertronix,
they have a couple of options - the Ignitor and the Ignitor 2.
They are a direct replacement for the points, and are apparantly really easy to fit.

I ended up removing the twin point mallory and fitting a Ford duraspark dizzy 74-85 and duraspark II control module.
Works great and uses the same cap and rotor as the original ford one.
Was cheap too.
302w use a smaller oil pump drive compared to 351w,clevelands.

I bought a duraspark dizzy NOS for US $19.95 on ebay I haven't got a module yet I read somewhere that a Chrysler module works heaps better than the duraspark one but can't find out which model car/truck would be a suitable doner.
Anyone know?

The Petronix unit is a very good one and easy to install, but you would still be using your old distributor. I've had real good service from my Mallory Uni-Lite. This is an all new billet machined unit and is virtually maintenance free. Comboned with their ProMaster coil it's nearly unbeatable

we ended up buying a brand new Zenith electronic dissy (already curved for LPG) and it hasn't missed a beat. We decided the original dissy was too old and not worth throwing good money at. The new dissy only cost $320 delivered to Perth. Great value for a new dissy, especially when I compare it with money I've spent reconning old dissies in the past or having them recurved.
