Thumbs up Recommended Oils

Just wondering if there might be some highly recommended oils for the Windsor V8?
Is a flush a good thing for an engine thats done 110 000kms?

Re: Recommended Oils

I have always used Shell Helix Fully Synthetic, the one in the grey bottle. I am pretty sure that is what Herrod Motorsport recommend too. Don't know how much the flush stuff does, but I did use it in my old engine and the new oil seemed to stay cleaner for a longer time.

Re: Recommended Oils

The main thing is to CHANGE often !!!
I like synthetic too, but realy "good servicing" is just as important !!!!

Re: Recommended Oils

I think I might put a flush through as I think the engines had castrol in it for the last 50 000kms. Ive never been a fan of castrol, so what flush did you use EDXR8?
My only concern with the flush is that if there are any carbon deposits or gum it may start using a truckload of oil after a flush. Would I be correct in assuming this?

Re: Recommended Oils

The flush just keeps the particles which are in your oil suspended longer so they come out when you drain the oil rather than just staying in your sump etc. So there is no chance it will start oil useage problems. I just used the Nulon stuff, drive down and buy it, throw it in while you are there and drive home and change the oil while still hot.

Re: Recommended Oils

doesnt really matter what oil filters you use if you change it regularly. Same goes with oil, as long as its decent oil and you change it regularly (ie every 5000k's) you shouldnt have a problem.

I do however, recommend using at least a semi-synthetic based oil for the windsors. I personally use Shell Helix semi-syn in the green bottle, Valvoline Engine Amour, Penrite, or pennzoil. Very good brands imo.

I used to use Castrol GP50 which is now called Castrol Formula R 25/50. I used it for 70,000Kms before i did a rebuild. Everything inside was as clean as a whistle. I was changing oil every 10,000kms. The engine didn't need a rebuild at all, i only did it because i wanted more power...

I now use Fuchs Titan supersyn...
