On my 75 ZG, you turn the key to start it and get a grindy scratchy noise, Im guessing its the start? what do I do?

Depends what kind of noise.. time old trick I learnt from RACV guy is use a soft (e.g rubber mallet) end to knock on the starter a few times, then try starting. If that fails , knock it while trying to start .. and if that fails .. *shrug*

If the hammer trick works, your starter is on it's way out..

you can tke the starter off and strip the solinoid off and give it a good clean inside as they can get a little bit sticky, also another reason could be that you may have a couple of teeth missing off your ring gear(auto) which causes weird grinding noises aswell.
