anyone have some basic ideas/tips/products that i can use in my 5.0L LTD that wont alter the engine's appearance too much (I constantly have mates/coppers looking under the bonnet trying to see if the engine's been fiddled with that would restrict a P-plater from driving it), and wont injure the bank balance too much. Coming from a Ford family means I've got a decent idea of what to do, I'd go maybe as far as replacing the heads if it was necessary.
if ya dont wanna change the apearance then definatley go with heads, ported factory intake (though its still restrictive - it will flow better than a stock one) i think its 1.7 ratio roller rockers, a set of extractors and an exhaust upgrade.
Best bang for bucks is some new gears either 3.45 or 3.7 ratio should get it moving a bit better. Anything else will change the apperance under the bonnet but you should first look at extractors and exhaust, then heads and intake. If you go for the AU style explorer intake you get a lot more flow and stock looks too, add that to a set of AU GT40P heads and you will start to see decent gains at a reasonable cost.
Sorry to thread mine, but what's involved in changing gear ratios? And how would those ratio's effect the car's crusing revs in top gear (110km/h) etc?

It's about $700-$1000 to change ratios with spedo adjustments and new bearings etc. A 3.45 ratio is probably the preferred ratio for daily drivers and provides equal to stock fuel economy. A 3.73 in a manual or 3.9 for an auto will give great acceleration without affecting top speed or rev's at 100kph too much but fuel economy will decrease slightly though.
