Hi guys. Got my car back from SVO after having new cam, 1.6 roller rockers, gt40p heads, edlebrock inlet manifold and 70mm throttle body put in.
Now when im driving in D, after about 3000 rpm there is a ticking or some sort of noise coming from the engine. Doesn't happen in Park/Neutral though. Is this pinging or something to do with valve train components? Will new oil fix this problem if its to do with valve train components not getting enough oil? Need help asap.

i have a 94 fairmont ghia no mods or anything but had a similar problem. accelerating or maintaining the revs around that mark made a ticking noise. at first i thought it was from the engine but when i had a closer look it was comming from the exhaust, around the cataylilic converter. it was loose. as you accelerated around higer revs because it was loose ticked and knocked around. i dont know if thats your problem but check it out.

i'd be going straight back and getting it checked out.......does sound like it could be pinging..... have you got any sort of aftermarket ecu / piggy back etc (ie unichip?)

It's def pinging. I adjusted it via the dizzy and it improved. But there is still some pinging over 4000rpm or when u boot it going around 60km. Think I need a chip and get it dyno tuned so it runs better, as there is some slight hesitation when taking off too.
I have atm - GT40P heads mild port/polish, bigger valves, crane powermax 2020 cam, edlebrock intake manifold, 70mm throttle body and EGR spacer, 24lbs injectors and 77mm Pro M MAF, CAI & paccies-twin 2 1/4'' - single 2.5'' exhaust.
What chips u guys running or suggest with similar mods? Thanks

Try using 98 octane fuel, if you're not already. If you are using lower octane fuel, fun it almost empty first.

had exact same problem with my 302w fairlane. Though it is stock. Was worse with regular ulp.
Solution:
Pull the airflow meter off the airbox, remove the mesh, you will see two sensors that look like diodes in a hole along side the tunnel. Clean them with some cotton buds. I didn't use any solvents. Have heard that you can use carby clean.
Wack the thing back in and see how it goes. Just be gentle. You stuff the sensors and your up for an new MAS.
I found when I cleaned mine there was a bit of grime there. I also cleaned the mesh as it had a coat of carbon on the inside.
Has been running fine over past two weeks. Can put the boot in. I have been using premium, next fill I am going to put some reg ulp in to really test the theory.
