hey guys, my old man owns a series 3 TS50 (5.6 stroker) auto and when he floors it (in any gear) it pings really bad between 4750rpm to redline. anyone got any idea of what it could be? he rarely thrashes it so the motor isnt tired or wornout. has this happened to anyone? any info would be sweet, cheers.

Go to Ford they have an eec retune fix for it !! Many had this problem...

in lamens terms an Engine management "Tweak"

yeh he got that done last week but it still pings.
they reprogrammed his engine management.

yep, always optimax.
its basically pinged since brand new, thats why he rarely canes it coz he hates to hear it ping, but his pissed off, he taking it back to ford this week.

I only use 95 Ron on my TS50 (98 is almost impossible to get in Tassie, and is $ 1.40 a litre, only available out of drums) and mine hasnt pinged at all
Get them to find the cause, if that dealer cant fix it, maybe look at another service dealer

Strange they had the same troubles in the States too with the last of the Mustang 5 Ltr eec v's SN 95's...Colder plugs may help but it sounds like too much spark.. Too advanced...
