Just wondering how you guys are controlling your thermo fans on early eseries cars. I was going to get a davis craig switch, but that will only switch them on/off...
i wondered if anyone has them operating like the ef/el ones where the two fans can be switched on and off depending on tempreture ie. one fan when cold, then two when hot...
i have at the moment a single switch which turns on both fans when the temp gets to a certain point.
I have now have Rollins twin stage switch on my car but not wired up as yet. It switches one fan on at a certain temp and then both running if it continues to heat up. I think the first fan turn on between NO on the C [NORMAL] H and the second turns on between MA. They are also wired up to cycle with the A/C. I would also like to setup a switch to manually turn them on, when I parking the car in the garage, and I dont want the temp to climb to the first stage of the temp switch, i would like it to be as cool as possible.
You could just run 2 of the davis craig switches set to different temps. I have had twin davis craig fans on mine for a long time now but have only bothered using the 1 fan controller to switch both on/off and that has worked fine for me.
ok, with Rollins setup, we both have the EF Thermostat housing, and top hose. He has tapped the thermoswitch into a piece of piping. He also cut the top hose into two sections, and also cut out a section for the piece of pipe which has the piping which has the thermostat in.
I am not sure what the switch is out of, and neither is he. You would have to do a little research and find out a switch which activates at the temp you want them to turn on at. Also you will need to make sure you thermostat opens at a cooler temp than the first stage of the thermoswitch, or otherwise you will have the fans on, and the coolant wont be flowing at a decent rate
Mitsi Magna's have that senser/ thermostate on the bottom rad. hose.On 8's it's even easier as there is a s/s pipe between the lower two piece radiator hoses..Just drill and weld correct thread s/s nut and fit senser/ thermostate switch. It's already earthed so it can be used to earth relay to activate fans..Make sure the fuses and relay have high enough amperage, atleast 25 amp..These little suckers pull some load...

Yeah but that costs $900 and only works on certain EEC's
eb's and ed's 8 are practically covered with the twEECer, if you decided to use the twEECer you would need to connect to pin 41, then enable the eec. this is only one of the benefits, and if you decided you wanted to play, then you would have a fully reprogramable eec to get it tuned.
