I am saving up about $2500 for the above parts which I was looking to import from Summit Racing. I know many of you are asking why I am going with just Ford Motorsport parts but the answer is that for insurance reasons, I want to keep Ford parts and these parts would be more than enough for me (as a P plater!). Also, they are considerably cheaper than aftermarket stuff which I know are good, but not good value for me right now (unless you say otherwise).
Anyway, I have many questions but I won't be able to remember them all. Firstly, does anyone know a good mechanic in the area (Hawkesbury NSW) that can put all this stuff together for me? Next thing, will the intake manifold fit Aussie cars? The main reason I picked the GT40X heads is that they weigh quite a bit less than the similar performing GT40Ps. Is this a wise choice or should I just go the GT40Ps? I am not sure about porting at the moment because that can get pretty pricey I have heard.
Once again I have a lot of questions but it takes me ages to save up for this kind of money, this is the most I will have spent in one go, I want good performance and I want to make a good decision...

Thanks guys once again!
Howdy!
Should be a solid combo going on those specs! You can pick up an FMS 65mm throttle body for much less than that - they are almost worthless these days! Tickford literally threw a whole dumpster of them out! Herrod should have a stack of them from cars he's upgraded to bigger units, and they should be widely and cheaply available elsewhere too.
There's no problem with the GT40 upper and 10mm phenolic spacer fitting Aussie engine bays - take mine for example
The GT40X are a pretty good head, and would be my choice too for the same reason as you - insurance. NRMA will insure anything I do so long as it is Ford original equipment! The X's flow quite well and will also give you great gains in weight savings in the front end. Of course they will cost more than GT40p's, but hey, if you're gonna get Ford heads, get some alloys!! I'm running all FMS stuff at the moment and intend to keep doing that. AFR and Trickflow make excellent products as well but I can't afford to get specialist insurance for them, and I can't afford to fork out for a new intake manifold either.
Just a question - are you going to leave the standard ECU with the new injector / MAF arrangement, or maybe look at a Unichip or something similiar to manage the new gear?
Best of luck!

Just a couple of things, I don't think $2500 will come close to covering the parts listed. Firstly the GT40X heads are $600each (I don't know if you realised that or not), and freight and import taxes will kill you, Summit wanted $200US just to freight over a manifold. By my calculations you are looking at around $5k for those parts by the time you get them over here.
Otherwise, as Sparkles said I think it will be quite a good combo, it has been well tried and tested in the USA for many years.
I was hoping to get all this in one go and see if I could lower the freight costs somehow... I will get some quotes soon and see what happens but I think I am pretty dead set at getting FMS parts.
Otherwise, thanks for the help Sparkles and EDXR8! I am glad to see someone who has gone down a similar road. As for the EEC management, I don't like chips too much so I was willing to get a TwEECer or EEC Tuner if it came out for EEC5. Other than that, I could go and get a whole new management system like MoTec but that won't be any time soon.
If these parts are a little too expensive to import, is there anywhere in Australia you can get them?
That GT40 manifold would show up like dogs nuts when compared to std inlet. The Cobra is alittle more stealth.. The heads?? Well I would have thought any heads can go on within reason as they can't be seen etc...www.austrackmotorsport.com.au www.highperformanceworld.com.au
For U.S I find www.jegs.com Better...
Maf ?? Make sure you get correct one as thats where most of eec5 tuning is done..A local 70mm from a latter model seems to work o/k...P.M me I may have some heads for you ....

It looks like I will have to find the TB, MAF, Injectors and the spacer in Oz because the freight is more than I thought. Seeing that the cost of getting the manifold and heads would be the cost of geting Edelbrocks over here, are FMS parts availible here? I was thinking of trying to look around and see if I can find the GT40X and Intake Manifold here, but if not, it will look like I will have to import.
ebxr8240 - I noticed you are located at Penrith, do you know any good mechanics up there that know their stuff?
I've e-mailed Summit Racing about getting some parts, a GT-40 manifold, 70mm T/B, 73mm MAF and 9mm plug leads. All up, it was going to cost AUD$1800, including GST, freight, all taxes and stuff like that.
Me and a few guys are currently thinking of doing a bulk purchase from there in a couple of months, and hopefully that will lower the price a bit as well.

Yep www.southsideford.com.au imo you'll find aftermarket way cheaper and more advanced as these parts came out on the 93 Cobra.. Much the same as our Sprint...

Yep the heads are definitely easy to conceal externally, but I wouldn't put it past the insurance assessors to pull everything apart hoping to find something they can void the claim with, in the event of a write-off!
