I have a 1986 F150 302 v8, I had my mechanic change my ignition control mod and now he messed up the timing when he removed the distrbutor. His timing light is broke so we need help on reseting the timing. We tried setting off #1 cylinder and setting the rotor to 10 degrees off #1 but when it started it sounded like a diesel not good so he played around somemore and now nothing what can i do cause i dont have a timing light.

He needs to get #1 to top dead center on compression stroke. Make sure rotor is pointing to #1 wire. If not, pull dist. and adjust till it is. Once it is pointing to #1 as it should, it will be close enough to get it to run, then fine tune by ear and test drivng. It may take a few test runs to get it, but it shouldn't be that hard. Once you get it running well enough, find another mechanic, (unless this is just a friend that is helping you out)
