Has anyone ever bought a dizzy cap for a 5 litre from anywhere else but Ford? I recently tried to get one but found:

Bocsh don't even list dizzy cap or coil
Ecklin lists coil and I paid $70 for one
Ford lists the dizzy cap for $240

I'm never going to buy a dizzy cap from ford nor can I afford that price. Has anyone ever got one from anywhere else for cheaper?

Yeah I couldn't believe the price ford quoted me for one. I ended up getting an Accel cap and rotor kit from a mate who works at an accel wholesale company. Great build quality with brass terminals. I don't know any other brand that does them.

I've heard this before, and it really confuses me . . . I bought a distributor cap about 6 months ago (bosch) , and it cost $25 (EL XR8). A quick call to pacific spares (waitara, sydney), for a distributor cap got me the same answer . . .

Are we talking about really different things here ? I'm talking about the bit with 9 poles for the leads & coil, yeah ? I would have thought $240 would be getting close to the actual dizzy itself in pricing . . .

I've attached a pic of what I'm talking about (albeit not a V8 one, but we'll pretend).

Yeah thats it, ford want $240 just for the cap, and $80 for the rotor. I emailed Bosch about 6-9 months ago and got the response "we no longer produce distributor caps or rotors for the Ford 5.0L EFI", so they must have some older stock there.

Try Repco or Bursons etc...surely they have them. Is a Bosch Distributor cap of a electronic Ignition Cleveland the same ???? Are all Bosch Holden and Ford etc... Distributor Caps the same ??? Don't Bosch make 2 plastic style coils which is probably what you need... 1] A red one for points distributors 2] Black for Electronic... I know your car does'nt have points style distributor , but I mentioned it anyway.

Yes Accel do a Brass Terminal jobbie cost me about $80 afew mths ago from A1 Hi Performance.

Repco was the same - no listings. Didnt surprise me since they have the same books as everywhere else. Yes $240 for the friggen cap. The whole dizzy was close to $1000 the spare parts guy was telling me. I got the Coil from Bursons.

EDXR would you mind getting some contact details for the mob that you got your dizzy cap from? Im determined NOT to buy one from ford.

i got my cap and rotor button for 140 from ford spare parts, i work in automotive industry and get good trade discounts.

Use the internet (if you can wait a week or so) and get a ford Racing Performance part plus rotor:

The Ford Racing Catalogue says its a direct replacement part and it comes with cap, rotor and the bit under the cap as well (See pic here: http://www.autoworks.cc/images/12106-B302.jpg). I wonder what a Ford Racing Parts Dealer over here wants for one. Segedins Truck Auto Parts in Auckland were Ford Racing Parts resellers so I'd give them a call quote that part number and get a price.
